The National Imam Council (NIC) is a national platform dedicated to empowering imams and religious leaders across the United States. Rooted in the mission of AMAN, NIC strives to provide comprehensive religious, legal, moral, social, and economic support to imams, helping them serve their communities more effectively and with dignity. We are committed to strengthening the position of imams by fostering unity, mutual respect, and collaboration across diverse Muslim communities.
NIC works to enhance the skills and influence of religious leaders through specialized training, workshops, and strategic guidance. These efforts are focused on helping imams engage with American society, address contemporary challenges, and communicate the peaceful, inclusive, and universal message of Islam. A key part of our mission is to protect our communities from extremist ideologies by promoting a balanced and spiritual understanding of Islam rooted in the Sufi tradition, emphasizing peace, love, coexistence, and tolerance.
To support religious leaders in their day-to-day responsibilities, NIC regularly provides sermon guidance, recommended khutbah topics, and tailored resources. We also assist in curriculum development and offer valuable suggestions to help enhance Islamic education programs, social outreach efforts, and interfaith initiatives in mosques and Islamic centers.

The National Imam Council (NIC), a project of AMAN, is committed to supporting and empowering Imams and religious leaders through spiritual guidance, professional development, national collaboration, and interfaith engagement. We aim to uphold traditional Islamic values, promote moderate narratives, counter extremism, and enhance the role of Imams in building a peaceful, educated, and harmonious American Muslim society.
NIC aims to build bridges between imams and American society by encouraging interfaith dialogue, civic engagement, and healthy relationships with elected officials. We also work to ensure that capable and talented imams are given national platforms and opportunities to speak, collaborate, and serve in diverse communities. Furthermore, the Council advocates for a unified moon sighting system using both traditional and scientific methods to foster greater harmony in celebrating key Islamic events.
With a forward-looking vision, NIC is committed to equipping imams with the tools and support they need to navigate linguistic, cultural, and societal shifts, while continuing to uphold and share the timeless values of Islam.
